RESULTS:

Its interesting to see strenghts and weaknesses in both CPUs across various tests. Most noteably, in the ensight-04 test the i7 3960x @ 4.7 Ghz manages to perform -34.5% worse when compared to my AMD FX 8150 @ 4.7 with a 6990 at the exact same clock. However, in the proe-05 test, the i7 3960x scores +40.5% better than my AMD FX 8150 rig at the same clocks.

Overall, my AMD FX 8150 only lags behind the i7 3960x rig by -4.4% at the same CPU/GPU clocks on average. Overclocking back up to 4.8 Ghz, and increasing my GPU clocks to 990/1500 Mhz results in only a +2.7% increase in performance when compared to the lower clocked FX.

A Special Thanks to alexmaia_br from the overclock.net community for sharing his results to compare with.

  1. that's exactly what I wanted, clock-clock comparisons, that really shows us how the FX and I7X/K compare in various benchmarks

    It is really interesting how the I7-3960X @ 4.7Ghz & 1050$ exceeds the performance of the FX-8150 @ 4.8 Ghz & 270$ by ~1.7% only

We're waiting for piledriver and wish it becomes even better, too bad it won't be available until Q4 if it doesn't face delays

Trinity should improve single core performance than zambezi and vishera should improve it even more

and this shows how reviewers showed bulldozer much *cough*hate*cough* when they reviewed it

We're still waiting for power benches

BTW: can all FX processors overclock till 4.8 or just some of them?

  2. Hi, thanks for the feedback always nice to see someone commenting here! Yes all AMD FX processors can overclock to 4.8 Ghz, the question is do you have a good enough cooling solution. The delta on these chips is about 300 mhz, so some chips may only hit 4.6 on air, while others can hit 4.9, 5 if your lucky.

With stock cooler you should be able to overclock to 4.5 out of the box.

    cheers

  3. thanks for the reply do you remember me (madooo12 from xbitlabs)
did you increase voltages or were they the same, it would be cool if you hadn't increased them
and if you did increase them, by how much did you do that?
and what is the delta on chips?

4.6 on air is still great

    Thanks
